Lance Corporal Clive Napier Curling – 2354

Clive Napier Curling was born in Enmore, Victoria in 1896 and enlisted in Liverpool, NSW in July 1915. Initially he was a private in the 17th Battalion before joining the Engineers of the 5th field company and being promoted to Lance Corporal. In the 1920s Clive was charged with forgery and then died in March 1959.

Birth: Born in Enmore, NSW on 19th of November, 1896 to Mary Harriet (née Whately) and Henry Oakley Curling.

Religion and Occupation: Anglican surveyor

Enlistment: He joined up in Liverpool, NSW on the 18th of July 1915.

Embarkation: Left Sydney on the 5th October, 1915 on HMAT Themistocles A32.

  • Private 18/7/15 – 5/2/16 5th Reinforcements, 17th Battalion, 2nd A.I.F. Division
  • Private 5/2/16 – 10/3/16 B Company, 17th Battalion, 2nd A.I.F. Division
  • Sapper 10/3/16 – 10/5/17 Engineers, 5th Field Company, 2nd A.I.F. Division
  • Promoted Lance Corporal 10/5/17 – 25/7/19 Engineers, 5th Field Company, 2nd A.I.F. Division

Discharge: In Sydney NSW on the 25th of July, 1919.

Medals: 1914/15 Medal, Victory Medal and British War Medal

  • Also awarded Military Medal and Meritorious Service Medal on the 18th of June, 1918.

Marriage: He married Margaret Alice Maude Ainslie (b. 1897) on 2nd September, 1922.

Crime: He was charged with forging two different names on different cheques between February and March 1924 in Sydney, NSW.

Death: Clive died on the 3rd of March 1959 in Queensland Australia. He was buried in St Matthews Anglican Cemetery in Sherwood, Qld.
