George Barkley was born in 1890 in Victoria, Australia and enlisted in Brisbane, Qld in February 1915. During his service George Barkley was a member of the 25th Battalion and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and also received the Military Medal. He was later killed in action in June 1918.

Enlistment: Joined on the 9th of February, 1915 in Brisbane, Qld.
Embarkation: Departed Brisbane on 29th of June 1915 on the HMAT Aeneas A60.

- Killed in action on 10/6/18

- Also received Military Medal on 13th of July, 1917.

- Wounded in action with gun shot wound to left hand on 14/11/16
- Trench Fever 20/6/17 – 1/7/17 with 7th Australian Field Ambulance
- Severe Suffocation Gas Poison – 29/10/17
Death: Killed in action on the 10th of June 1918.
Burial: Buried in Beacon Cemetery in the Somme, France. Grave reference: III. D. 3.
